Piotr Szwedo

Jagiellonian University in Kraków

Piotr Szwedo is an Associate Professor of International Public Law at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, focusing mostly on international economic law, water law, and sustainability. His recent projects include Rights of Nature – a vehicle for sustainable development? Operationalisation and critique from an international and comparative law perspective (financed by the National Science Centre, Poland) and a French-Polish project Durabilité et le droit (PHC Polonium). He is the pilot lead for Una Europa Joint Bachelor in Sustainability, director of OKSPO Centre for Foreign Law Schools at JU, as well as member of several committees and advisory bodies. He visited over 20 reputable institutions around the globe as an invited scholar.

Pierre Brunet

Pierre Brunet

Pierre Brunet is a Professor of Public Law at University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Director of LL.M. de droit français et droit européen and Double LL.M. Sorbonne-Queen Mary. He is a co-editor of "Droit et Société" (LGDJ) and member of several editorial boards of French and foreign journals. His research interests include jurisprudence, legal theory, legal argumentation, comparative constitutional law, French administrative law. He has published extensively on constitutional environmentalism, animal rights, environmental ethics, and synthesis of constitutional law and legal theory. In 2019, the University of Externado in Bogotà published a volume of collected papers Para un análisis del discurso jurídico (trad. esp. Adriana María Cely R.).

Lena Helińska

Lena Helińska

Co-investigator, Jagiellonian University in Kraków

Lena Helińska is a Doctoral Candidate in an interdisciplinary PhD programme and an employee of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. Her research is focused on interrelations of international law and science, judicial interpretation, and indicators. Aside from being an investigator in research grants, Lena is involved in numerous institutional projects, notably the Una Europa Task Force for Sustainability and Climate Protection, Una Europa Joint Bachelor in Sustainability, and Excellence Initiative – Research University. She is a coordinator of French Law Programmes (Jagiellonian University and Université d’Orléans) in OKSPO Centre for Foreign Law Schools and an associate of Centre for Interdisciplinary Constitutional Studies at JU.

Oliver Houck

Oliver Houck

Project consultant, Tulane University
Oliver Houck is a Professor and the David Boies Chair in Public Interest Law at Tulane University. He attended Harvard College (1960) and Georgetown Law Center (1967), with three intervening years in the US Army, predominantly Korea. He served as a federal prosecutor in the US Attorney’s Office in Washington DC until 1971, when he became counsel to the National Wildlife Federation and part of the first wave of environmental law. In 1981 he moved to Louisiana where much of his work since centered, joining the law faculty of Tulane University. He has served on boards and panels of several national science and environmental organizations, and has published extensively on issues dealing with water, wildlife, coastal protection, and pollution control.

Jacques Leroy

Jacques Leroy

Jacques Leroy is a Professor Emeritus of Private Law and Criminal Sciences and a Honorary Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Management of the University of Orléans. He is one of the leading French scholars on the topic of animal law, in particular animal rights and legal personality of animals from a theoretical, historical, and philosophical perspective. His other field of expertise is penal law. He is an author of many publications and the editor-in-chief of Revue Semestrielle de Droit Animalier. In 2018, he received a honorary doctorate from the Jagiellonian University for his contributions to the scientific debate as well as for his role in development of French law programmes at JU's Faculty of Law and Administration.

Andrés Martínez Moscoso

Andrés Martínez Moscoso

Andrés Martínez Moscoso is a lawyer and has a PhD in Politics and Constitutional Studies at University of Alicante (Spain). Full-time professor and director of the Institute of Legal Research of the College of Jurisprudence – University of San Francisco de Quito. He has dozens of publications in indexed magazines, and has been a national and international consultant on issues related to water management and environmental law. He is a member of the World Commission on Environmental Law (CMDA) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. His main lines of research are: Water Law; Environmental law; and Public Management. He visited the Jagiellonian University in 2022, teaching courses i.a. about Rights of Nature.

Maciej Perkowski

Maciej Perkowski

Co-investigator, University of Białystok
Maciej Perkowski is a Professor of Law and the Chair of Public International Law and European Law at the University of Białystok. He has been involved in a number of projects regarding EU law, regional development and environmental protection, most notably in the case of Białowieża Forest – a forest complex on the border between Poland and Belarus, consisting of the remnants of European primeval forests. Together with Przemysław Saganek and Wojciech Zoń, he co-authored a recent book The Disputed Białowieża Forest. Legal Remedies for the Protection of Cross-border Properties (Brill 2022). He is currently exploring also other instances of Polish environmental challenges from a legal perspective.

Wojciech Zoń

Wojciech Zoń

Co-investigator, University of Białystok

Wojciech Zoń is a Doctoral Candidate in Law at the University of Białystok and a graduate of internal security studies. Together with Maciej Perkowski and Przemysław Saganek, he co-authored a recent book The Disputed Białowieża Forest. Legal Remedies for the Protection of Cross-border Properties (Brill 2022). His research includes topics such as regional development, environmental issues, and non-discrimination. He has been involved in interdisciplinary research projects with a legal component, as well as in scientific and civic initiatives, including Europe Direct Podlaskie ­­– part of the European Commission's network of informational points in Poland. He remains active in associations aimed at development of the local academic community.
